Troubleshoot savings goals

Note: To perform this task, you must be using the Advanced Budget. To determine which budget you’re using, look for the Essential Budget, Advanced Budget, or Savings and Spending Budget label in the upper-right corner of the Budget summary page.

Error messages about savings goals may be caused by one or more of the following:

  • The goal amount is too large or the date too soon. Money evaluates your savings goals according to the amount you want to save and the date by which you want to save it. If Money calculates that your unbudgeted income is not enough to cover a savings goal by the date you want to achieve it, Money will tell you to adjust either the amount of the goal or the date.
  • You haven’t created a budget yet. Money requires a budget to calculate information about savings goals.
  • You haven’t told Money that you want to save unbudgeted income. Money assumes that you’ll spend unbudgeted income instead of saving it. You can tell Money that you want to save it instead, and this will change how Money calculates your savings goals.
