Balances in the account list and account register don’t match
If the balance in your account list doesn’t match the balance in the account register (The page in Money that displays all the transactions for one account, such as a checking, a credit card, or an investment account.) , either your Money file needs repair, the register contains a hidden transaction, or your Money file from an earlier version of Money wasn’t successfully converted to the latest file format. To fix the problem, try one or more of the following.

On the File menu, point to Repair Money File, and then click Quick File Repair.

  1. On the File menu, click Open.
  2. Change Files of Type to All Money files *.m1?, *.mn?, *.mbf, *.bak, *.cek.
  3. In the list of files, find the Money file that you need to convert. Look for a file name that ends with one of the following file extensions:
    • *.m14 or *.mny (Money 2005 file)
    • *.m12 (Money 2004 file)
    • *.m11 (Money 2003 file)
    • *.m10 (Money 2002 file)
    • *.mn9 (Money 2001 file)
  4. Right-click the Money file you need to convert, click Copy, and then press CTRL+V to paste a copy of the file, which will be called Copy of<yourfilename>.
  5. Right-click the copy, click Rename, and then rename the file, making sure to change the file extension to .mny. For example, rename a copy of mymoney.m11 to mymoney.mny.
  6. Select the renamed file (the one ending in .mny), and then click Open. Money will prompt you to convert the file.

  1. Click Reports.
  2. In the Income and expenses reports list, click Account transactions.

    Note: If you don’t see the Income and expenses list, in the left pane, click Change report settings, and then follow the instructions to switch from Essential Reports to Advanced Reports.

  3. At the bottom of the Account transactions report, in the Accounts and Date range boxes, select the account and time period that you think may contain a hidden transaction.
  4. Optional: Under Common tasks, click Print this report, and then follow the instructions on the screen.
    You can use the printed report to compare to the account register.
  5. In the report, double-click the transaction that doesn’t appear in your account register.
  6. In the Amount box, type 0.00, and then click OK.
  7. Click Mark the transaction as void, and then click OK.
  8. Click Banking, and then click Account List.
  9. Click an account, and change the voided transaction to show the correct information.

Notes

  • The Account transactions report is available only when you’re using Advanced Reports (Advanced Reports in Money provide in-depth financial reporting and customization, based on the information in your Money file. Advanced Reports include account balance history, net worth over time, and loan amortization.) .
